A Rather Disgusting Feeling

For the past two weeks, I've been feeling like something is stuck in my throat. It causes me to swallow compulsively and drink a lot of water to get rid of the unpleasant sensation.

Then, a colleague mentioned that his neighbor threw up a large worm a few days ago. The worm was carefully placed in a jar--to show the doctor. Needless to say, I drove to the pharmacy very fast to get some worm medicine.

Oddly enough, it's almost one year ago that I first tried Wormox:
Wormox-the Best Medecine in the World

(I dare you to type the word "ascaris" in the Google Images search engine)

By the Way, thanks so much Erick, TeaandZen, and Dallas for posting on my GuestMap! If you would like to make your presence known, thanks for clicking the link to your right. It takes about 5.7 seconds to pin yourself on the map and makes my day for 8 hours.

Sadly enough I already had-- I was doing some research for my Diversity of Life class. Fascinating animal.
Also, ew ew ew! So was it actually a worm?

Ascaris... I have really bad and painful memories of that nasty little fellow! :)

Tell me, when u say Wormox, you also mean Vermox, right? I remember, my mum made us take in a profilactic way at different intervals. Since she started doing that, I have never received a visit of the nasty little fellow again.

Yes, it is actually Vermox 100 mg otherwise known as Mebendazolum. Vicky, am not sure if I have one but I keep on opening my mouth widely towards to mirror just to check.

Ooh! I DO hope it's not a worm :S I'm mostly elated I didn't get "anything" during my stay in Senegal: being a vegetarian was pretty risky...

Take care!

Strangely enough, UW-Madison--smack dab in the middle of Wisconsin--is a stronghold for African History, Languages and Politics. I'll be traipsing about the Great Lakes region this fall, writing up vignettes in Swahili for a professor. Have you come across Jan Vansina? He's an eminent emeritus from UW and has written some path-breaking works on precolonial history in the Congo Basin. Just curious. I really like your work and wish there was more like it in out there about Africa: well-thought-out yet accessible.
