Electricity

Yesterday evening, I saw people sitting in chairs reading to the only light in town (a NGO building that has a single light bulb that burns bright during the night). I asked a friend what that's all about and apparently, they were Kindu University students stdying for an exam the next day. Even in the middle of seemingly nowhere, people still manage to cramm for exams. I'm impressed.

Note to RHJ: I removed my comment from your other blog because the comment that came after it freaked me out a little (blogs are fun but can attract unwanted comments--see my disclaimer). Just so you don't think I'm in anyway related to the person :)

Wow ! There's no electricity in Kindu, no running water, but they have a university ? Wow is all I can say !

I'm telling you, people are resilient and incredibly self-reliant when they want to be!

It's completely impressive! It makes me feel so small since I can't seem to study for my exams unless my AIM is running and CNN is playing in the background. Wow is right!

Studying without electricity... That's just shocking!
Heh heh heh :)

That sounds rough! Do they ever "burn the midnight oil?"

Hey Doro, what comment was it? Do you know what's up with RHJ? Ack, I'm putting off updating my blog... too much to write about! Kindu sounds really interesting!

nwrkgirl, tell me about it. I miss my midnight coffees with subway sandwiches so much.

Nameless One. Electricity=shocking. Took me a while to figure it out and it's pretty funny. Except if this is Dad or Ammo :)

Dan, I've seen them burn the midnight oil pretty much every night they've been here. Except that's meant in a figurative sense because they really can't afford oil in their lamps for studying.

Vicky, some older lady got hold of RHJ's other blog and left a comment about how she was worried about her young, fragile soul yadda yadda yadda. So I guess she felt more comfortable taking it down for a while :(
