Sssh!! The Potatoes have eyes…

I’ve been working in my job for three weeks now and desperately trying to keep up on health news. It’s hard because your usual websites like CNN and BBC aren’t very scientifically minded, and though The New England Journal of Medicine is pretty detailed in describing protein pathways, well, it’s just not the kind of health news that needs to be on my radar.

But I have to say, the more I know, the more depressed I get. I mean, what are we doing to our poor planet by continuing to drive monster trucks for short commutes to work, prohibiting teenagers from getting the proper Reproductive Health knowledge, inventing reasons to go to war, and completely disregarding the law on gun use?

I finish my work day with a heavy heart and increasingly distressed about life in general. It’s just not healthy.

And you know what else is not healthy? Potatoes that have been left to grow eyes and flower in a bowl in the kitchen. I mean, did you even know that potatoes could flower? It’s just unnatural.

Mutant taters... scary!
The nice thing about my job is I'm totally disconnected from reality. For us, a tragedy is if we run out of champagne during an evening...

I went to go see Sharkwater a few days ago, and have been thoroughly depressed since (good movie--if a bit undermined by the fact that the director, Rob Steward, thinks he's a playboy).
It's just so hard to live ethically; every one of our action has negative reprocutions on the environment that we probably aren't even aware of. Major changes need to happen if things are to improve, but the more I look, the more changes seem to be going in the wrong direction. I'm frightened to see what the world will be like in 50 years.
PS: my friend has a "Potato Experiment" in his kitchen... he's been growing them for months. It's awesome!
PPS: When the surface layer of your potatoes turns green, they're started photosynthesizing (you haven't been keeping them in a dark enough spot). Unfortunately, they've also started producing a carcinogen, so be sure to cut the green parts off before you eat them.
Woo, lengthy.

Ok, I don't know what's wrong with you Victoria but there ain't NO WAY I am eating those potatoes. I can hear them scream of pain right now.

I'm still a university student for a few more days! This allows me to eat disgusting food. Don't hate.

Oops, that was me.

Potatoes are living things so please respect their privacy. Both your comments are potato insensitive and you should be ashamed of yourselves!

Interesting factoid: you can grow potatoes just from little pieces of skin/eyes that have been allowed to germinate...
